External Hard Drives buying guides
External hard drives are boxes of spinning disks that hold lots of files for a lower cost per gigabyte than most fast drives. They're good for backups and old photos. They're slower than an SSD and can be hurt by drops, so choose a rugged one if you travel. Pick capacity with room to grow.
We haven't published a External Hard Drives guide yet. We only publish a guide once the research behind it is done.
